Here is the statement we shared for the story:

The Nature Conservancy, the Kennebec River Restoration Trust, and our partners appreciate FERC’s decision on the abeyance and understand their request for additional information. We are confident we can demonstrate the technical and financial capability to operate these dams safely and in compliance with existing licensing conditions as we prepare decommissioning plans in close collaboration with riverside communities over the coming years. We remain committed to this multi-year effort, and to working with all parties – including FERC, Sappi, and the communities along the Kennebec – toward a solution that restores the river’s health and strengthens the region’s economic vitality.
